3-Day Disney Dream Cruise

This is an overview of the 3-day cruise on the Disney Dream. I am going to give you a bit of general information about the Dream, then give the 3-night itinerary, and the ports of call. I will also give an overview of the dining and entertainment on board the ship and finish with transportation options to get to the ship.

The Disney Dream was the 3rd ship Disney introduced into its fleet in 2011. There are 14 passenger decks onboard ship with a passenger capacity of 4,000 and a crew of 1,458. The ship is opulent with an art deco design. There are a total of 1,250 staterooms; with some having a veranda, some an ocean view, and some an inside “view” (Disney does provide a view of the ocean in the room with a state-of-the-art “magic porthole” .) Hi,

We have our new website up. We still have work to do , but it is coming along. We found out that we can’t just automatically bring all of our followers over. I think that is odd since they are both wordpress sites. One is wordpress.com and one is wordpress.org. We are going to still post the link to the new articles over on the new site for the near future. We don’t want to lose any of our followers. We enjoy the interaction and since we won’t even be on the reader any more, we will come over and still read the people we are following. We won’t appear on the reader though. Again, I don’t understand this, but can’t change it. Just wanted to update you. We now have the buttons to follow on twitter, Facebook, instagram, Pinterest, etc. See ya real soon!

Disney ‘s Aristocats Movie Review

Roly(son)

Hello.  I recently watched one of my favorite Disney movies, the ‘Aristocats.’ This movie follows four cats, who are stolen from their rich owner by her evil butler, Edgar. The first cat is the mother, named Duchess. The kittens go as follows, Marie, Toulouse, and Berlioz. The butler stole them and ditched them on a farm. He did this after finding out that the rich old woman who owned the cats was leaving all her possessions to them, not him. The cats seek to find their way home.  On the way they meet an alley cat, whose name is very long; so I will call him Thomas O’Malley. The man who voices O’malley also voiced Little John from Robin Hood (see previous articles about movie), and Baloo from Jungle Book.

The evil Edgar.

It seems strange to me that the only one of the cats at WDW meet and greets is  Marie. It also seems strange that for a movie as popular as Aristocats, Edgar is not recognized as a Disney villain. Edgar is up there in evilness with Cruella Deville for trying to kill kittens. First, to get the cats out of the picture, he puts sleeping powder in their food. A mouse friend of theirs, Roquefort (who is voiced by Sterling Holloway, whom we posted on this week) also eats some.  The cats all go to sleep, and then Edgar dumps them in a field. In the field Edgar has a run-in with two dogs. Later in the film, when Edgar sees the cats again, he tries to kill them.

The two hilarious hounds!

The dogs offer great comic relief and are to me, the best part of the movie. They are voiced with the thick Southern accents of Pat Buttram and George Lindsey (Goober Pyle from the Andy Griffith Show). Lines like, “Where’s my beddy-by basket!?” and “That’s just a little ‘ol cricket bug” never fail to make me laugh. I am sure that they don’t sound very funny out of context, but in the movie they are hilarious.

The music for this movie is fun and memorable.  It has one of my favorite songs, “O’Malley the Alley Cat.”  It is  sung by my favorite Disney singer, Phil Harris (the voice of Thomas O’Malley). Another great song is “Scales and Arpeggios,” sung by all the kitties. The other main song in this movie is “Everybody Wants to be a Cat” sung by famous jazz musician Scatman Crothers.

Aristocats is from my favorite era of Disney movies. The era from 101 Dalmations to The Fox and the Hound.  Over all, this movie is a great Disney movie. It is for sure a classic!

**A bit of trivia about this movie:  It  was the first movie to be made after Walt Disney‘s death. I personally can’t tell any difference.

Changing name of our blog

Hi,

I wanted to update our readers. We became aware that we had to get a new website name and also drop the wordpress.com. I thought choosing a name would be easy, but with three people putting in ideas, it isn’t. We are still all three going to write and still mostly going to write about Disney. We are going to also have some new and exciting travels thrown in the mix. I am excited about this change. Doing all this however isn’t as easy as we thought. Choosing the name is hard enough, but we aren’t tech whizzes, so it may take longer than we originally thought.
Any names that you, our readers have is always welcome. We also want to assure you that we will bring you over with us when the change does take place. Until this change is complete, we will still post content that is hopefully interesting. Thanks for reading! Elaine (Perdita) mom.

5 Disney Father’s Day Gift Ideas

With Memorial Day behind, the next “major” holiday, Father’s Day, is fast approaching on June 21…. I know, even Hallmark has been unable to generate much excitement for Father’s Day. That said, we dads do appreciate any acknowledgement,..and gifts. Don’t forget the gifts!

So with no further ado, here is your Father’s Day gift guide for a Disney Dad. We will stick with the obvious, because most of us dads will be glad to get just about anything. Let’s talk about Men’s Fashion. Like many men, I have no “style,” but I do have “a style.” We typically wear khaki shorts or jeans, a polo or t-shirt, and oftentimes a cap. About the most bold statement made from our clothes is our team color (red) and logo (UofL/Go Cards!!). So, in general, for clothing, sticking with the basics and avoiding anything too flashy or over the top is a good idea.

1.  Shirts – Most of you know your dad’s taste. If your gift is something that he will wear at home and not just at WDW or Disneyland, then it will be much more appreciated. Again, for most of us, nothing too wild. Simple designs with basic colors usually work best. There are great selections at your local Disney Store or there is still time to order from DisneyStore.com. Target has Marvel and Star Wars shirts. Stick with t-shirts and polos. These are usually cheaper and will get more wear. IMG_3871
2.  Swim trunks – Summer is here. If your dad likes the pool, lake, or ocean, then this would work well. I recommend something discreet and tasteful like these. IMG_3875
3.  Caps – A lot of us, especially those who are or are becoming follicularly challenged really like caps. Be careful, though, because most of us are particular about the “style” of cap: baseball, trucker, flat-bill, golf, etc. These are hard to order online. Get a good look and feel of you dad’s favorite cap(s), go in person, and pick out one of the same style. If in question, then it is best to choose something else.IMG_3867
4. Watches – I absolutely love my Mickey Mouse watch! I wear it every day. I get compliments on it frequently from children and adults. Most dads will love a watch and will not feel weird wearing it. Classic colors (black, brown, tan) and materials (leather, cloth) work best. Just avoid wild bands. It does not have to be expensive either. DisneyStore.com has a good selection. Target has Marvel watches.IMG_3866
5.  Mugs – Mugs are an excellent, and inexpensive choice. I don’t drink coffee, but I love mugs for my hot tea. I use several; so, a new one is never a bad thing. Some people, like our accountant, place Disney mugs on display in their office. The Disney Store currently has some good options including Pooh Bear and “Inside Out” mugs. DisneyStore.com has great options, too. If you will be at WDW or Disneyland prior to Father’s Day, then the new Starbuck’s Disney commemorative mugs are a sure fire hit. **TIP** Buy 2 mugs; one for each of his 2 favorite parks. Give him the mug of his second favorite on Father’s Day. He will like it, but it will leave him wanting the one from his favorite park. Stash the other mug away until Christmas or his birthday and then give it to him. You have scored twice!IMG_3908IMG_3910IMG_3909

Don’t forget your dads on Father’s Day this year. Your Disney dad will be thrilled with one of the above options.  I hope this helps.
If you have any other ideas, I would love to hear them. Please leave a comment.

Fun facts about classic Cinderella movie

Elaine/mom/Perdita here-374685187_b565c19fc2

Cinderella is the 12th of Walt Disney’s 54 animated full-length feature films. It was released in 1950.  It is based both a fairy tale “Cendrillon” by Charles Perrault and a Brothers Grimm fairy tale. It was chosen because of its similarity to Snow White. The films true immediate source though was the Perrault’s French version.

It took six years to make and it was one of the highest grossest films of 1950. Disney re-released it several times to keep its popularity high among new generations of moviegoers (re-released in 1957, 1965, 1973, 1981, 1987).

Songs in the film that were popular were “Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo” (Oscar-nominated), “A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes”,” So This Is Love”, “Sing Sweet Nightingale”, and “The Work Song”.

It was the greatest critical and commercial hit for the studio since Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs.

Brief Synopsis-

Cinderella was the beloved child of a widowed aristocrat who feels his daughter needs a mother’s love. He marries Lady Tremaine and after his sudden death, her true nature is revealed. She overwhelmingly favors her daughters from a previous marriage: Drizella and Anastasia. She abuses Cinderella who is laden with reams of chores until she is reduced to a slave in her own home. Meanwhile there is a king who wants his son, the prince, to have a wife so he can have many grandchildren. The king decides to have a ball and invite every eligible maiden to find a wife for his son.Cinderella-Pumkin

Lady Tremaine receives the invitation and Cinderella overhears. Cinderella has no suitable dress, but her friends the mice (more on them later) and the birds make a nice dress for her. The evil stepsisters can’t stand the competition so they rip the dress to shreds which reduces Cinderella to tears. The fairy godmother makes an appearance and works her magic. She gives Cinderella a beautiful dress, a pumpkin carriage, coachmen, and the infamous glass slippers and the rest is fairytale history.womens-cinderella-cinder-elly-jaq-and-gus-t-shirt-logo

A highlight of the movie for me were the mice: Jac and Gus (known as Gus-Gus). They embody the anthropomorphic transformation that many of Walt Disney’s animals had, especially early on. The role of the mice and the birds are overlooked somewhat in the tale of Cinderella, but that is an oversight in my opinion. What would many of the Disney movies be without the charm and heart that comes from the animals (especially the ones that talk)?Cinderella-disneyscreencaps_com-867
